growing up,
I loved waking up to the fragrance of fresh chai brewing on the stove top. Sharing a cup of warm chai with my mom was the best way to start the day -- the aroma from the spices provided a meditative feel and the caffeine from the black tea gave me the boost I needed.
When I moved to Seattle after college, I was excited to carry on this morning tradition but struggled to find time in the mornings to brew chai and clean up the pots before leaving for work. Still wanting an energy boost to get through the day, I resorted to drinking the unhealthy and over-priced coffee available at work or local coffee shops. I even experimented with instant chai packets from India, but nothing came close to the quality and taste of mom's homemade recipe.
Frustrated with the options available in the market, I leveraged my passion for Indian chai to create my own beverage solution that was healthy, affordable, caffeinated, and easy to make. I spent months iterating through different formulas and 60+ recipes later, I found the perfect balance between healthy spices and caffeine rich espresso that met my needs.
I shared samples of the recipe with family, friends and co-workers and quickly realized the problem I was solving was not unique to me. What started off as passion project to preserve a childhood morning routine turned into a solution that resonated with many. Quickly realizing this, I began capturing feedback and improved the recipe to ultimately curate three beverages -- Original, Dirty, and Filthy Chai.
I'm beyond excited to launch Chaítheory and share my childhood mornings with you in every packet. Can't wait for you to give it a chai!
